Honorarium Personnel of the Town Council

Please find below a list of all of the Honorarium Personnel of the Town Council.

Mrs Emma Sorrell

Beadle

Beadles were originally officers who carried poles or staves, so that they could, with their weapons keep order on all occasions when the Mayor was present and to also keep a clear passage for the Mayor.

Emma is the first female Beadle in its history.

Mr Mick Love MBE

Ludford Macebearer

The Town has two maces, the Sadler Mace, a gift from John Sadler to the town c.1632 and the Ludford Mace, given to the town by John Bracebridge Ludford c.1757.

The Mace is the emblem of the power, authority and dignity of the Mayor and the office of Mace Bearer has a long history. The officer carries the mace before the Mayor and is responsible for its proper care and that of all other civic insignia. The Mace Bearer immediately precedes the Mayor in all civic processions, no person is therefore permitted to walk between the Mayor and the Mace Bearer.  The Mace Bearer is regarded as the Mayor's personal attendant and is usually required by the Mayor to act as such when they are fulfilling any official engagement.

Mr Ken Ryman

Sadler Macebearer

Mrs Maureen Beckett

Relief Macebearer

Mr Graham Beard

Relief Beadle

Dr Rev Paul Edmondson

Council Chaplain

The Chaplain is generally appointed at the Annual Meeting of the Council after the Mayor's election. The duties of the Chaplain may include opening all Council meetings with a prayer and attendance at Civic Church services. At civic banquets, the Chaplain will be expected to say grace at the meal.

Mr Charles Wilson
