Councillor Phil Applin represents Tiddington Ward as a Conservative. He was born in Southampton, educated in Redhill Surrey, and went to Aston University in Birmingham under an Engineering Student Apprenticeship with Lucas Aerospace. In 1970, Phil married his wife, Rosie. They have two children.
Phil graduated in Engineering in 1970 and took up the post of systems engineer in the gas turbine controls division of Lucas aerospace. He then worked as RAF Liaison Engineer following which he spent three and a half years as Far East Area Manager based in Tokyo. Phil returned to the UK in 1980 to take up the post of Divisional Chief Engineer for the Stingray torpedo project. Phil left Lucas in 1984 to join IBM as an industry consultant. Phil retired in 2009.
Following retirement Phil Joined Voluntary Action for Stratford on Avon as a trustee and became treasurer.
At its inception in 2011 Phil became the Deputy Chairman of the Stratford upon Avon Neighbourhood plan and was instrumental in setting up the processes for creating the plan. Phil continues in this and the VASA role to the present date.
Phil is a member of the Stratford Society.
Phil has been an active squash player and a keen runner which he had to curtail after ruining his knees. He is now a keen cyclist.
Phil is a classical music lover and attends concerts when time permits.
