SDC's Stratford-upon-Avon Safer Streets Survey
Statements as to Persons Nominated - Elections on Thursday 6 May 2021
Stratford-on-Avon District Council is seeking the news of the public and local organisations to inform potential proposals for a bid to the Home Office Safer Streets Fund 2021.
What is the Safer Streets Fund?
The tragic killing of Sarah Everard on 3rd March 2021 brought to the forefront concerns about women and girls’ safety in public places. To provide reassurance to women and girls and ensure the safety of public spaces, the Government announced, on 15th March, an additional £25 million for the Safer Streets Fund. This is being used to run a third round of Safer Streets Funding, with a focus on ensuring the safety of public places for all, and a particular emphasis on improving the safety of public spaces for women and girls.
The third round of the Safer Streets Fund opened on 3 June 2021, providing an opportunity to bid from a fund of £25 million for the year 2021/22. The third round of Safer Streets funding is available for interventions to improve the safety of streets and public spaces for all, with a particular focus on areas of potential concern to women and girls. This third pilot round makes £550,000 available per bid and seeks to expand the evidence base on the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG) crimes, aiming to prevent these crimes before they can occur, whilst simultaneously increasing feelings and perceptions of public safety in problem areas.
