Councillor Keith Lloyd 1958 – 2018

The Town Council is in shock today following the news that one of their longest standing members, Councillor Keith Lloyd, died at home yesterday, surrounded by his wife and family.

 The Mayor, John Bicknell, said ‘We knew that Keith had been ill, but were quite unprepared to hear the shocking and unexpected news of his death, as we had hoped he had fully recovered from illness that had dogged him over the past year.  Keith was a commensurate politician and a colourful and much loved member of the community, but above all, a loving husband and proud father.  On behalf of the Town Council and all the staff, we send our deepest and very sincere condolences to his wife of twenty-nine years, Elaine, and their five children, Kelly, Matthew, Adam, Craig and Peter’.  Outside the council chamber, we will remember him as an ardent supporter of Manchester City and being a proud Welshman, he enjoyed seeing them doing well in his native sport, even if it is at the expense of beating England!

 Keith was born in the Ruthin, North Wales, Educated at Friars Grammar School, Bangor, and moved to Stratford-upon-Avon in 1974.   He was one of the last pupils at the former Hugh Clopton Schoo.  Keith gained employment at Young Engineering, Stratford and then advanced onto junior and middle management positions in automotive purchasing at Pianoforte Supplies Plastics, Wellesbourne.  In the latter years, he dedicated his time to serving within the three tiers of local government.

Joining the Town Council in 1999, Keith represented Welcombe Ward as an Independent, was currently serving as one of the town’s three County Councillors, and was a former District Councillor.   Keith became Mayor in 2012-2013, following in his father’s footsteps, as his late father, Edward Lloyd, a former Town Clerk in both England and Wales, also served as Stratford-upon-Avon Town Mayor between 1989 -1990.
